There’s an unmistakable quality to the Cabernet you can grow on this mountain. Situated 1,660 feet above Napa Valley, the location, soil profiles and elevation of our Cold Springs Vineyard are enough to make even the most stoic wine geek swoon. The topography is so varied, there’s no single vantage point that gives you a sense of the whole, but rather, it offers little secrets to be discovered around every bend.
It’s hard to explain what it’s like standing here, in a vineyard surrounded by forests, seemingly worlds away… it’s just one of those special places that needs to be experienced firsthand.
Peter Mondavi Sr. and his sons, Marc and Peter Jr., have spent a lifetime in the vineyards growing grapes,
tending the land, and learning everything there is to know about making great wines. In 2003, Marc found
60 acres nestled in the quiet hills of Howell Mountain, Napa Valley. Marc was immediately mesmerized by
the rolling hills and varying soils and as taught by his father Peter Mondavi Sr., he knew these were factors
destined to produce fruit with abundant character and complexity.
The family compiled a dream team capable of harnessing the vineyard’s potential, by hiring Napa Valley’s
highly regarded vineyard manager, Jim Barbour and world-class winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown. After
years of collaboration with the singular focus of producing the finest Cabernet Sauvignon possible, the team
is proud to release the inaugural vintage – the 2008 Aloft Cabernet Sauvignon.
